Richard, Very good of you to share your experience, which I know to be considerable.

If you have a few minutes one day, I would be interested to know what effect, if any, you feel a resurgent Shanghai will have on Hong Kong. Near-term? Long-term?

Richard,

"My friend and I have been telling our American friends here in the mid-west our thoughts that the yuan would rise, even during the Asia crisis and will continue to tell the story....."

But could you get anyone to believe you? I've been saying more or less the same thing and... never mind.

The propaganda machine has been 'rumoring' about devaluation of the $HK and the yuan over the past year. Does anyone suppose those making these comments had hedge fund investments?

Interesting piece in Oct 3 issue of Newsweek.
"When a high-powered US team led by former Secretaries of State Henry Kissinger and Cyrus Vance went to China last month, they were startled to receive a hot economic tip from Chinese Primes Minister Zhu Rhongi. Beijing will not devalue its currency for at least the next two years Zhu told them. ..... Asked what he expected them to do with the news, Zhu replied, "I'm telling you because you're are good friends and I assume you are going to tell your good friends."

I don't think I'll comment on this -G-

FWIW,
Ron
