Old growth timber is not "renewable" on a realistic time scale, and old growth timber is what the salvage rider was really about. Or you can take Dwight's word that it really was about the pine bark beetle, along with his other demonstrated knowledge on the timber industry. You'd think if there was really concern about "forest health", there might be some language in the bill about how "forest health" was supposed to be measured, instead of blanket override of all applicable environmental law.
