********very very very off topic fish & other predators Part III******

Boy, I'm on a roll tonight... (:o))

Perhaps the saddest thing of all is that the lion is much more likely to die of hunger than the buffalo is to perish from being eaten. In other words, the carnivore has less of a chance than the herbivore (not to speak of the omnivore) of living to a ripe old age. The carnivore cannot eat anything but meat, even if it wanted to.

I learned that from a heart-breaking (boo, hoo) nature show about cheetahs. The mother & the baby-sitter of four half-grown cheetah cubs died (the first of anthrax, the second from being attacked by a lioness jealous of her territory), leaving the cubs to fend, that is, hunt, for themselves. But they were not very expert at it, and so they all died of starvation -- on camera. It was so pathetic to watch the last one standing there, all wobbly, just about to keel over, and surrounded by hyenas patiently waiting to move in...

Pity the poor predator..
