Mike, I think you misunderstood my post. Jay Rommel had asked what the bearish arguments against TLAB were and I responded in that vein. I am not an engineer, and consequently would not pass judgement on this technology. Furthermore, at the bottom of the post you will note that after reading Dave Dickerson's summary of the conference call I noted that I found myself convinced of the soundness of Michael Birck's arguments.

I agree. SONET is by no means a "waning" technology and will certainly not "wane rapidly over the next few years". It is the definitive, high bandwidth, optical backbone technology for BOTH ATM and IP (which means it is required for BOTH camps). OC3 to OC192 and above rely on Sonet for carrying these technologies. SONET is crucial to all optical transport mediums and will be with us for QUITE a while. (BTW, I interpreted the associated post as you did, Mike).
