All your points are well-taken, Fred.

<I just happen to believe that it is an incredibly poorly managed company with decent products and no strategy for sustained profitability. I don't think this will ever change until Jerry is ousted.>

First, we're seeing even AMD hold off on the product announcements until they're able to ship in volumes. Second, we've already seen AMD withdraw that wacky "25% lower than Intel equivalent" promise in favor of a more sound pricing strategy. Third, AMD's speed ramps seem to be proceeding nicely. We'll know for sure once we see how many 400 MHz parts AMD is able to ship in Q4. All these reasons are making me believe that AMD is maturing a little.

As for the strategy of sustained profitability, that all depends on Intel and general market conditions. I agree with you that AMD's business model is very high risk. The fact that AMD is shooting at a moving target courtesy of Intel sure doesn't help. We'll see how well AMD can aim when we find out how they're going to market their upcoming K7.

Fred - re: AMD & " Celeron is going to continue attacking their bread and butter "

Pricewatch now lists the AMD K6-2 350 MHZ top of the line CPU for $171, representing a $68 drop from less than a month ago.

pricewatch.com

Intel's 333 MHz Celeron is now at $163, down $46 from about $209 a month ago.

Intel is putting the squeeze on AMD, as you noted.
