I talked to my friend and he responded like this is common knowledge

He basically said you buy puts and/or write calls and jack the stock down or you buy calls and/or write puts and jack the stock up. Anyone with a sizeable account can play the game, market maker or not. And since 95% of all options expire worthless it is VERY PROFITABLE for the option writer.

Now I understand your point that DELL trades a rather large number of shares so this could be difficult for one person, but how about one institution or better yet several that are working together.

I assuming he knows what he's talking about since he's a profesional trader himself (i.e., works for a large NASDAQ trading firm).
