LET'S GO FOR THE JUGULAR....

I posted this on MF this morning.....

===========================

Thanks RDEMONEY....

With the DOJs case against Microsoft starting today, it's the perfect time to stand up and tell the world what the heck is happening out there. Forget about the case. Forget about Microsoft. It's about this massive Second Internet Wave which is just beginning to gather steam.

Corporate Execs have no clue how vulnerable they are to decisions they've made in a vacuum regarding their choice of platforms and technologies to make them competitive in advance of or even survive during Internet Wave 2. Internet Wave 2 will be a more massive and punishing force for positive change than anything they have ever seen. Internet Wave 2 is about the pedel hitting the metal. CEO's that have been golfing with Gates are in for a rude awakening. NT/Microsoft will have them in a proprietary culdesac for 2-3 years as far as their ability to open up the the real power of the Internet.

When I say "open up" I'm simply outlining this completey NEW and totally misunderstood enterprise mandate that is the Internet Age in Wave 2 is calling for NOW. For the past 1-2 years I have felt like I'm riding another midnight Ride - Paul Revere - warning of this new requirement to be open, extend, turn more and more power over to customers, etc.

Finally I pick up this recent Gartner Group Strategic Technology insert to Forbes - "Executive Edge" - and read Manny Fernandez (CEO of the Gartner Group) say:

"We are in a period where the leadership ofmany industries is about to be reshaped. The more the role of technology is in flux, the greater the amount of dislocation. As companies that are not usually thought of as being involved with technology learn to use technology better, they have the opportunity to go from being number five or number ten players - or new entrants - to becoming market leaders.....

"We will see that this supply chain and value chain shift will allow companies to jump-start and to leapfrog and to separate or to enhance themselves even further away from their competition.

"I BELIEVE THAT THE NEXT FIVE EAR ARE GOING TO BE THE MOST EXCITING OPPORTUNITY YEARS BECAUSE OF THESE CHANGES."

Taking the Lucent news to heart, I sent this to an NT-partisan head IT/CIO - this morning......

Subj: Good Morning.....
Date: 98-10-19 07:49:49 EDT
From: FKSmart
To: <<SYP/CIO Of A Major Financial Institution That Bet the Farm on NT 2 Years Ago....>>

Mr. SVP/CIO:

See the Lucent news below. One more nail in the coffin that's gradually being built for NT.

The nails will be coming out of the woodwork as more firms embrace Novell's NDS and other more open platforms (see Linnux) and related technologies that seek to link heterogeneous IT environments BEFORE the entire world throws itself into the arms of NT.

As we move ahead you will understand how Novell's NDS (whether run on Netware on natively no NT) is the great way for a corporate enterprise to launch/expose/open up the enterprise to the power of IP and the Internet - NOW, not in 2-3 years.

Our industry is ready to blow right into the arms of Internet. Where do you want to go today?

Fred

U.S. Government Allows 10 Firms to Export Encryption, WSJ Says

Bloomberg News
October 19, 1998, 4:53 a.m. PT
Washington, Oct. 19 (Bloomberg) -- Ten U.S. data networking
companies have won U.S. Commerce Department approval to export
powerful data-scrambling technology under a relaxed
administration policy announced last month, the Wall Street
Journal said. The ten companies -- Cisco Systems Inc., Ascend
Communications Inc., Bay Networks, 3Com Corp., Hewlett-Packard
Co., Network Associates Inc., Novell Inc., Red Creek
Communications, Secure Computing Corp. and Sun Microsystems Inc.
-- were told of the decision Friday and are expected to announce
their export plans today, according to the Journal. The Journal
said companies are fighting to loosen provisions that forbid the
export of the technology to foreign telecommunications firms and
Internet service providers.

The policy change announced last month allows exports of
unlimited strength encryption products to 45 nations that have
strong anti-money laundering provisions.
