Raymond,

Hagar was not called Abraham's wife any where in the bible. In Genesis 16 it says that Sarai gave her to Abraham to be his wife but it's not what you think. Sarai was barren and since that was a shameful thing to most women during that era she said, I pray thee, go in unto my maid; it may be that I may have children by her.

Should Hagar have truly been Abraham's wife then Sarai could not have held any claim over the offspring because they would have solely been the possession of Hagar and Abraham.

You will find no place in the bible where Hagar was called Abraham's wife she's referred to as sarai's handmaid. Even the angel called Hagar a maid. In the light of what the bible teaches about her I see no reason for people to venerate her.
