john, true. funny thing is i'm honest about my whoofers and everyone says i exaggerate. right paul? ;-)

my longs are down nearly 50% from their highs, but i'm still 20% or so above early 1997 levels. not bad considering the individual stocks are down as much as 80% from highs :-(

as i recently posted to someone, i don't sell low and won't sell now unless fundies change - and they haven't. if they do, invest in kleenex 'cause i'll be crying a lot... ;-)

John, The track and the market have a lot in common. Our fellow SI poster, Dave Feldman has a great book, "How To Win At Just About Everything," that devotes two chapters to a comparison between horse racing systems and stock market systems. It is a terrific read, but you will have to try the library, as it is out of print. BTW, Dave is much nicer to the touts in both arenas than am I. I know, big surprise! -g-
