It was from July 97 to August 98. Since then it has underperformed the Yen.

I can see the pattern now and will be looking into this and thinking about what it means including looking at ^AORD too.

The problem with your theory is that all most of the events on the ^AORD chart correlate to events in the US at the same time. The trend is weaker on ^AORD (because of big dividend payouts and little reinvestment). I don't bother doing TA on the All Ordinaries Index. The only index I track is the SPX. That's predictive enough for turining points.

I guess this makes as much sense as looking at the 1929 or 1987 charts and trying to predict the present. But looking for similar dynamics 1 year later is pushing it.
