Jon, so Microsoft belatedly sees the writing on the wall. They believed their own 'Mission Statement', namely, 'A computer on every desk and in every home'. It became hypnotic. The new paradigm from QUALCOMM has caught them unawares, though it has been long enough coming. pdQ being the harbinger of what's up in wireless.

So MSFT tried to buy 3Com's PalmPilot? Maybe even The Q itself.

As in so many things, sometimes the lead is too big and money isn't enough. Sure money talks, but there is an awful lot of it around. So MSFT won't be getting any discount offer on The Q or PalmPilot.

So, here comes QUALCOMM. With a 10 year [I always am a little early, so maybe 15 year] market capitalisation to equal Microsoft, Intel and Compaq combined. The Q makes the software, the chips and the box and has a patent on the gizzards themselves. MSFT only has the software, Intel only the chips, and Compaq the boxes.

The fun is just beginning.
