K7 puts AMD at an 18 month or more advantage over Intel .

Brian,

18 months beginning when?

18 months since the presentation of K7 on Oct. 14, 1998. What really mean is that the K7 presentation gave the copycat the technology instructions teaching them how to design their next 32/64-bit K7 clone to compete with K7/M3. Intel has been blocked off the latest x86 technology since Digital Equip. suspected that Intel stole the Alpha technology while HP has been extremely careful on their own technology in designing Merced for Intel.

My guess is that Intel will announce an brand new core by end of this year. When it happened as MMX2 after 3DNow!, you should know who inspire the copycat!

Scumbria , don't shoot the messenger . I am merely reporting the news..don't forget it was a quote from Slater not me .

However I believe that Jerry Sanders is fed up with being maligned
by investors and analysts . He is now being very coy with his statements for example on the CC he stated in answer to a question on
ASPs that the ASPs would be $100 , however in the same CC he said that rather than aiming for much more than 4.5M K6-2s they would be aiming at a richer mix (higher ASPs). BTW on Pricewatch they have 380 and 400mhz listing starting Nov 2 . The competition is real and its time you took your Intel tinted glasses off .
Brian
PS if as you claim you are a designer of CPUs , how come you do not realise the inferiority of PII ?
The only thing that saved it from being celery was the L2 cache bus .
