Ericsson signs two year contract for ADSL with Telia

Ericsson has signed a two year agreement with Telia to supply state-of-the-art
ADSL equipment. The agreement opens the door to telecommuting and high-speed
Internet access by supporting speeds ranging from 25 to more than 100 times
faster than analogue modems. Based on Ericsson's ANx-DSL platform, Telia's new
service will cut download times for users from minutes to seconds.

The ANx-DSL system uses ADSL (asymmetric digital subscriber line) technology
to dramatically increase bandwidth in the existing copper access network. This
means that people working from home can download large data files faster than
ever before. An additional advantage is that Ericsson's ANx ADSL platform
supports digital video services.

The ANx-DSL equipment is installed in the operator's central office, where a
splitter and a DSLAM (Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer) separate
voice and data signals to and from the subscriber, and concentrate data
channels for forwarding to the data network backbone. Even at low take-up
rates, this is a flexible and scaleable system, easy to install and extremely
cost-effective.

Telia has approved Ericsson as ADSL supplier. The contract now being announced
will cover installations planned up until the year 2001.

"Telia and the Swedish market are of great strategic importance for Ericsson
and we are pleased to have won this order. Telia is committed to bringing
broadband to the home and Ericsson is looking forward to being part of this
transformation of Sweden into a truly networked society," says Bo Wall,
General Manager at Ericsson Telecom Sweden.

"The contract means that we can rapidly roll out broadband services for
telecommuting - LAN to LAN communication - and high-speed Internet access for
Swedish companies, households and the public sector. Our ambition is to lead
the development and turn broadband communication into the kind of success
story that mobile telephony has been for Telia. At the start of the year 2000,
Sweden will have the highest broadband density in the northern countries of
Europe," says Gunnar Almgren, program manager, Broad Network Services,Telia
Network Services.

Telia is the leading supplier of telecom-based information services in the
Nordic/Baltic region. At the same time, "seamless" pan-European and global
services are being realized through powerful alliances and partnerships in
Europe and around the world. Annual turnover 1996 reached 44,100 MSEK and the
number of employees amounted to approximately 34,000.

Ericsson is the leading provider in the new telecoms world, with
communications solutions that combine telecom and datacom technologies with
the freedom of mobility for the user. With more than 100,000 employees in 140
countries, Ericsson simplifies communications for its customers - network

Ericsson has signed a USD 138 million (SEK 1,080 million) contract with Chongqing Telecommunications Administration (CQTA) for the fourth expansion of the city's GSM network

This is the city's largest expansion project to date. Upon completion next year, Chongqing's GSM 900 network capacity will exceed 1.6 million subscribers.
