Mexico Analytica and Sasianet Markets Provide Access to On-line, Real-time Financial Services in Untapped Markets With BEA WebLogic Application Server

BEA Provides Proven, Scalable Infrastructure for Internet-based Systems in Mexico and Sri Lanka

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 10, 1998-- BEA Systems, Inc., (Nasdaq:BEAS - news) today announced that SasiaNet Markets in Sri Lanka and Mexico Analytica in Mexico have adopted the BEA WebLogic application server as a key part of their application infrastructure to deliver real-time financial services over the Internet.

SasiaNet Markets and Mexico Analytica both provide comprehensive current and historical financial information on money markets, mutual funds, and financial news in their countries. Both are using Java to deploy information systems today that deliver critical real-time news and analysis to their customers via e-mail or the Internet.

SasiaNet Markets

SasiaNet Markets in Sri Lanka covers the Colombo Stock Exchange, as well as information from the south Asian, and southeast Asian markets and has plans to extend coverage to include stock exchanges in India and South Africa. SasiaNet Markets chose the BEA WebLogic application server for its customer service and portfolio management system, an application that needed to scale to meet future increases in demand. One of the key reasons that SasiaNet Markets chose BEA WebLogic was for its ability to deliver performance while providing low-cost deployment.

''Java helps enable us to leap-frog other technical solutions and lead with one of the most advanced, reliable information technologies available,'' said Erik Wikramanayake, managing director of SasiaNet Markets. ''The BEA WebLogic application server provides us with easy deployment and strong manageability and performance capabilities. BEA's demonstrated expertise in advancing its technology, and its support for standards such as Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB), shows the importance BEA places on helping us use new technologies, protect our development investments, and offer new services to our customers in order to maintain our competitive position.''

SasiaNet Markets is using the BEA WebLogic application server as the gateway between their sophisticated database system and the multiple clients that access the system using a standard Web browser. Client screens are based on WebLogic HTTP servlets, which use preset connection pools. The user interface allows clients to retrieve or update information in HTML, generated by using BEA WebLogic's HTML classes. With BEA providing the platform, SasiaNet Markets' need to implement integrated feeds from various sources was successful with no impact on performance.

Mexico Analytica

Mexico Analytica provides similar services to those of SasiaNet Markets and is one of the only providers of on-line, real-time financial services in Mexico. Mexico Analytica provides financial information on the Bolsa Index, BMV, NYSE, CME, NASDAQ, Dow Jones, and NYMEX-COMEX. Customers access information through a standard Web browser or as a Java stand-alone application. Mexico Analytica chose the BEA WebLogic application server for its support of client-server database access with Java, which works with their existing infrastructure and data sources, including databases, legacy systems, and clients.

''The implementation of the BEA WebLogic application server was made in response to the rapid growth of our systems and services,'' said Francisco Castrillo, senior Java developer of Mexico Analytica. ''BEA met our implementation needs and helps provide high performance and stability. The BEA WebLogic application server handles scalability with caching, pooling, and sharing connections to our multiple databases.''

''It is encouraging to see companies from many different parts of the globe looking for ways to leverage leading-edge technology such as Java to create innovative solutions for their customers,'' commented Paul Ambrose, chief technology officer for the BEA WebXpress division. ''Java and the BEA WebLogic application server provide the solution to their need for secure, mission-critical information dissemination services and can continue to be key components as they continue to develop sophisticated services in the future.''
