Mr. Thomas Patton reports
Following is an update on the El Salvador project in Zacatecas State,
Mexico, a joint venture between Teck - 55 per cent and Western - 45 per
cent.
El Salvador Joint Venture
Cerro Gorrito
Six core holes were recently completed in the Cerro Gorrito area, where
hole TAM-05 intersected 32.6 metres averaging 230 g/t silver. One hole
(TAM-08, collared about 50 metres north of TAM-05) tested the same zone
intersected by TAM-05.

Hole From To Metres Ft g/t opt

TAM-08 3.0 15.8 12.8 42.0 98.6 3.17

Incl 4.5 9.0 4.5 14.8 163.6 5.26

Two holes collared to the south and southwest of TAM-05 were drilled on the
upthrown side of the Cerro Gorrito fault and did not intersect the
mineralized zone. Three other holes were drilled to the west of TAM-05 to
test blind geophysical targets and did not contain significant base or
precious minerals.
The Cerro Gorrito mineralized zone remains open to the north and east.
Similar jasperoidal outcrops 700 and 1100 metres northeast of TAM-05
contain barite, traces of galena-sphalerite, and silver values up to 60
g/t. Geophysical and geochemical data are currently being reviewed to
identify additional drill targets.
Other targets
IP surveying, primarily in the areas north of San Nicolas, has identified
numerous anomalies which will be drilled early in 1999.
San Nicolas Deposit
Teck has a 1999 budget of $300,000 (U.S.) to complete a preliminary
feasibility study.
Penasquito Project
At Western's 100 per cent owned Penasquito project, a recently completed
CSAMT survey (Controlled-Source Audio-Frequency Magnetotelluric) has
identified at least five new anomalies and has delineated possible new ore
controls. A drilling program is currently being designed to test the most
prospective geophysical targets.
