You have to remember that the Palm OS is "Open Software". (At
least that's how I understand it)
Possibly, 3Com didn't know it at the time, but this is a brilliant
move, and very anti-MSFT. MSFT in the future will have to think
how to handle the "Open Software" attack (for example Linux).

Making the Palm OS "Open Software" means there are now thousands
of software developers who will make software for the Palm,
just for the fun of it (or for profit - which MSFT can do
without any alliance with 3COM).
