Scangraphics® Unit, Tangent Imaging Systems
Awarded $400K Contract for Cadence Series Drum Scanners

Cadence Scanner Wins For High Accuracy and Reliability

Limerick, PA - October 30, 1998 - Tangent Imaging Systems, a division of Scangraphics, Inc., (NASDAQ: SCNG), a pioneer and leader in large format scanning and imaging software, was awarded a $400,000 contract to provide a leading United States manufacturer with three 70-inch Cadence Series drum scanners. The Tangent Cadence scanners will be used to scan several thousand maps in locations around the world.

The application requirements included a stipulation for a drum scanner with the highest scanning accuracy available on the market for wide format documents, as well as software meeting stringent U.S. Government standards. The manufacturer chose the Tangent Cadence scanners because of their easy maintenance, reliability and high geometric accuracy. Tangent Cadence drum scanners boast an accuracy specification of +/- 0.03%. Tangent engineered the Cadence Scanner to pass the most stringent mapping application accuracy tests for super-wide format CCD color scanning. The most important factor being the maintenance of spatial integrity from the original map to the copy so that distance can be ascertained with precision. Along with their hardware meeting strict government requirements, Tangent's mapping software is one of the few scanning and mapping packages available that meet the unique government standards for critical mapping applications.

Grif Griffin, President of Tangent Imaging Systems stated that, "Tangent Imaging Systems is proud to offer our markets a variety of wide format scanning solutions. We are the only scanner manufacturer in the United States, with government and commercial clients, who offers a complete family line that includes sheetfeed, flatbed and drum scanners, as well as integrated, proprietary and open software. Each product family member enjoys the title of "best in class" by our customers and business partners. The Cadence Drum Series continues to be a hands-down winner."

Larry Osterwise, President and CEO of Scangraphics, Inc. stated that, "This sale continues the fine tradition of delivering the utmost in quality and function to every market area, a tradition that has been firmly established by Tangent Imaging Systems, and one that is clearly recognized and valued by our customers."
