The Importance of Time Synch! Timing is a big keyword in the markets. Outside of timely quotes and timing your buys and sells, I would strong recommend that you ensure that your computers are time synchronized. Doing so ensures that you are dead-on accurate with your order entry, your emails, your icqs, your chats, etc. While Yamner considers itself an excellent execution-oriented firm, we can't pull rabbits from a hat. I have often spent time with clients discussing executions, explaining prices, fills, etc. only to learn that the client was mistaken with their time because they were xx minutes off on their systems clocks. As well, inaccurate times effect email stampings, and other time notations. Now, some execution and quote systems take the times and stamp the reports, orders, etc. as of the time on THEIR end, which means not only is it important that your machines are synched, but that their machines are synched. Now, you can't control that, and have go on the assumption that they are meeting their responsibilities in synching their machines, but atleast you can do your part so you can always claim you were dead on accurate. There are many free, freeware and shareware applications available at the links below that will quickly and efficiently synch your machine to an atomically (?- Im not 100% sure of the technology) perfect clock. We have a server/client based setup which makes one machine a "time" server, it goes out every 5 minutes in a split second updates that server machine with the right time. Then the "client" software on each machine on our lan synchs off that machine every five minutes. It takes less than 300k in memory and a blink of bandwidth every 5 minutes. Yet, you can then ensure that all machines are synched perfectly to an atomically correct clock. All the software was free from the link below and very easy to install. I think the Dimension software thinkman.com works well. We use this on our server. and then the TimeSync NT service on the others. Takes about 4 minutes to install....one issue, the Dimension, works great, but I cant get it to uninstall from an NT machine, which i wish I had known before installing but it does work wonderfully.
