I don't have any more of a problem with the Wall Memorial as I do the Washington Monument. When I say "state sponsored art" I'm referring to the argument that is put forth that "artists" will dwindle and our society will "suffer" if the federal government doesn't get involved in subsidizing their art. It's almost akin to a state sponsored religion. You've seen the arguments that develop as to what constitutes art. One person looks at some of Maplethorp's and consider them obscene, others consider them "enlightened". We should not be asking those who consider those works an affront to be funding it out of their pockets.
