Here Tip this news on IBM G5s might remove your suspicions:

>> You asked: " Could they invent something that makes
them a world-beater and brings earnings and revenues up to the point where 138 would be fair value (in my mind -- that's all that really matters for my trading ..."

Yes , as it seems like IBM will turn in some bucks on its mainframes which they didn't invent but do market better than anybody else:

" The world's largest computer maker should see its
bottom line boosted by strong sales of its newest G5
mainframes, Niles said. And IBM's PC business, which
has lagged rivals in recent quarters as the company
struggled with the industry's fierce price wars, should be
regaining strength, he said. "

I'm so mellowed out with great expectations for IBM and its cousin AAPL I won't even bring up your past expectation of IBM falling to $90 :> )

$150 puts wouldn't hurt though !

Jim K.

<< Have I seen anything liek that up until now? No.>>

Well, the rest of the world has.

If you think that the stock is overpriced because it is in new high ground, don't forget that is what attracts more momentum buyers, which causes more margin calls on short sellers, which attracts more momentum players and on and on. Once the stock gets into new high ground there are only happy longs and those waiting for the price to get back down to where they wanted to buy it before, just to be sure it doesn't go back up again without them... There are also short sellers who have to cover and buy at some point. Technically, it is a nightmarish situation for shorts.

Not only that, but any day the company can announce new alliances, new contracts, new technology, inventions, new patents, and so on and on. Did you know, BTW, that IBM is awarded more new patents year in and year out than any other company in the world?

Ah well, if everyone pulled in the same direction the world would keel over.
