They were untrue, but like all manipulation rumors they got big press and the retractions were buried. As I recall, the rumors were:
1.The swiss were selling half their gold.
2.The Germans were gonna dump their gold.
3.I forget the other country.

The Aussies did sell their gold last summer and the Oz$ paid dearly for that mistake as did the Loonie. No major gold holder has sold even 1 oz. of gold.
