A bear market takes pain.</.i>

OC,

The avg Nasdaq stock was down 45% (52% if you remove MSFT, CSCO, DELL and CSCO) asof 10/05/98.
If that's not a bear mkt, I wonder what is.
Let me remind you that DELL traded down to $40 3/4, on volume of 100million shares (AMZN was $80!!!)
If that's not capitulation, then I dont know what is!

A bear market takes pain.

You mean, it's the bear market that giveth the pain, and a bull market that taketh the pain away. Unless you're on the short side.

I agree, buy and holds just had the gentlest bear market possible. many big names virtually unharmed, and the duration was very short. A real bear can last *many* months if not years. I'm too young to have dealt with one of those, but I've seen the historical charts!
