Eaton to phase out production at Oldsmar plant by end of 1999. Employees at the electric drives business unit in Oldsmar, Florida, were notified today that Eaton will close the facility by the end of 1999. Portions of its manufacturing operations will be consolidated and moved to the Power and Control Systems Operations in Watertown, Wisconsin. The Oldsmar plant employs 112 and produces solid state starters, electric drives, electronic metering and controls devices that are sold to other industrial manufacturers.

Eaton said it arrived at the decision announced today as part of its reevaluation of the company's entire drives business. By consolidating Eaton's drives requirements into the Watertown facility, its effectiveness would be significantly increased, an action the company said was necessary in order to grow the business. Marketing, engineering and product support functions located in the Oldsmar facility will be relocated to Eaton's Milwaukee offices.

Eaton said it is in the process of identifying specific dates for the phase out of the Oldsmar product lines and that employees will be notified as soon as those decisions are made. The company will provide severance payments, a benefits program and outplacement services to all eligible employees affected by the phaseout.

According to SI today, the semiconductor industry stock prices have risen 61% over the last 20 days. ETN took a 30% fall when it announced that its semiconductor division would not do as well as expected. ETN went down with the industry. Why is ETN not going up with the industry? ETN has only increased by 7% over the past 20 days.

Now all of a sudden, the market thinks ETN is not just a semiconductor company?

Why?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
