From my understanding of the fair trade laws, 3dfx could give CL more access to their roadmap, and give them first dibs on their chips when they're produced. With 6% of the shares, they'd have a good chance of getting a board seat.

It makes me wonder just how good 3dfx's next chip sets really will be and how strong OEM interest really is right now. I'm guessing that there's ton of good news coming soon and CL would know it (3dfx probably has been showing them their chips as they're a key board maker and CL knows the OEM's well).

I don't know much about CL's management - anything in particular you do not like.

As for the $40 - $50 price range, that was my expectation for 1 - 2 years from now, but I'll take a big jump in a short time for a sure thing. I just bought some more shares at $10.5, so even $14 would be a good gain.

Michael

ps this may kill the shorts, the 1 million shares is probably not shortable (reduces the float) and there may be a decent gap up tomorrow.

<I don't think $20 is good enough.>

Since my average basis is 21.875...it's not "good enough" for me either! Sure is fun to speculate though.....

Chip & Sun....thanks for the good laugh today!

So I went to Fry's in San Diego for some TDFX recon:

12MB Guillemot boards - Gone with new pricing of $139.
12MB Diamond boards - Still on the shelf at $199 and $50 rebate.
CL Banshees - Way over in a corner by themselves. Two had customer return labels. ~20 boards.
8MB Diamond boards - ~10 on the shelf
4MB Voodoo 1 by Diamond - A ton of these were there. I was surprised. Price was still $79. They were on the top shelf and there were lots of them (~40?)
CL TnT - They were eye level and had the dominant space. They also had a few endcaps around. Also noted two customer return labels.

On the plus side while I was there one customer was harrassing the clerk because over the weekend the 12MB Guillemot boards were in stock. Now they were gone and he wanted to buy one because his mail order company could not fulfill his order.
