Could a revised K6 core, the so-called K6+, contribute to the 450 Mhz and 500 MHz speeds? If so, would that entail adding a few more pipeline stages, or is that too drastic of a revision?

I think that AMD has continued to "tweak" their .25um process with poly
gate linewidth shrinks. At a 2.1V -> 2.2V operating supply, AMD might
be running .24um -> .22um at the poly level. I don't know whether this
will get them to 400mhz ... my guess is it will, but there could be speed
bin yield problems if the process "drifts" at all.


It looks like Intel really kept you out of their best stuffs? FYI, Intel's 0.25um 333Mhz P-II has an average gate length of 180nm. If AMD can get 400 with 220nm as you had suggested, how fast will K6 be?

Let's see:

If K6 at 220nm gate gets 400mhz vs. P-II at 180nm gets 333mhz

How can Intel be 2 years ahead in process technology?
