National Licenses Direct Rambus DRAM Memory Interface

Oct. 19, 1998 (Electronic Buyers News - CMP via COMTEX) -- National
Semiconductor Corp. is joining the swelling ranks of microprocessor
makers that have licensed Rambus Inc.'s Direct Rambus DRAM interface.
While a deal has not yet been signed, National has confirmed that the
upcoming M3 processor from its Cyrix Corp. subsidiary will support
Direct RDRAM. In addition to National, microprocessor makers Intel
Corp. and Advanced Micro Devices Inc. have licensed the Rambus
interface. But while AMD has adopted Direct RDRAM for next year's K7
processor line, it has chosen not to integrate the memory controller
on-chip, as Cyrix intends to do.

TEXAS INSTRUMENTS: New TI single-chip switching devices bring performance and cost advantages

All TI ThunderSWITCH products offer the guaranteed interoperability
of a common architecture and similar feature sets, which simplify
development of equipment that addresses a broad range of Ethernet
networking need;. Both of the new devices in this family offer
high-speed, non-blocking performance and features similar to the
TNETX4090GGP device for 10/100/1000-Mbps switching, announced by TI in
June 1998. These features include support for the latest Ethernet
standards, multiple Media Access Control (MAC) addresses and virtual
LANs (VLANs), half- and full-duplex flow control, an integrated
management port, and a direct input/output interface with direct memory
access capabilities. In addition,' the ThunderSWITCH II family of
devices utilizes RAMBUS memory which allows for superior performance
while still providing a low system cost.
