Let me get this straight. If I kill a guy for no particular reason the law will not judge me as harshly as if I killed the same guy because I didn't like him. The act of killing was the same but somehow the government is now monitoring the inner recesses of my mind to determine if my attitude was correct. It's called "hate crime" and it is now on the books.
What's next? Lust crimes? Envy crimes? Greed crimes? Hate, lust,
envy greed and other such attitudes are sins of the heart. They are certainly wrong. If not controlled and disciplined they may produce crimes against humanity. Hate may turn to murder. Lust may give way to rape. Greed may turn to stealing, etc. At such time the laws of man rightfully deal with them. Otherwise they are matters of the heart and soul and as such comprise the exclusive domain of God.
Liberals must have a god-complex. It is not enough that you behave a certain way. You must believe a certain way. In fact, your conduct really doesn't matter nearly as much as your attitude. Liberals have taught us that if you think properly you can behave as badly as you want.
If you are a conservative like Clarence Thomas more accusation of improper sexual advances is enough to warrant your rejection for the Supreme Court. Why? Because a conservative doesn't possess proper attitudes about things like abortion, affirmative action, etc. If however, you are a proponent of big government, abortion on demand, gay rights and a reduced military like as advocated by Bill Clinton---it doesn't matter how many women you mistreat. Attitude is everything.
The disparity of reaction and reporting of the killing of the gay guy in Wyoming is a classic illustration of this reality. While we were being inundated with media stories about this tragedy how many of us even heard about the young gospel singer who was murdered in New Orleans on the same day? There was not a peep about this being a hate crime.
Consider the teenager who murdered those students in Kentucky. He only targeted Christian kids who were active in a prayer group. He had taunted them for months previous to the shooting. He was vocal about his disdain for their spiritual practices. No one in the federal government or mainstream press even so much as hinted that this might be a hate crime. Only people in certain social or political categories qualify, I guess.
Re. picketing at the funeral.
Well intentioned, but not the forum for trying to balance the message that was being parlayed by media.
