I checked the posts on Yahoo. I was scooped by about 1/2 hour (I got the link myself and saw the other post after I'd made mine but I saw that Sun Tzu gave me credit over at MF and I'm far too honest). I read Yahoo everyday - many posts are crap, but there's enough good stuff there that you really can't ignore it. SI has a better overall quality of posts but they also lured some posters here with their "free 100" offer. I got in for free as well, but that's because I've been posting for a while.

I've also noticed that I've been quoted a fair bit over the last few weeks, I post something here and then a few hours later a few other posters at other sites start echoing my arguements. Makes me a little worried sometimes, as I think that my info is very limited and I'm making educated guesses at times. Still really annoyed that this business trip to CT messed up my chance to be a "prophet".

I've given more thought to why CL would buy the shares. I think the Diamond factor is the main reason. The very depressed price of 3dfx coupled with their excellent chips is another good reason. There is no way that any takeover would be "hostile" as they'd lose too many engineers and other "soft" assets. A strategic partnership would be a very real possibility instead of a takeover.

However, I think that the fact that CL is willing to make a $10 million investment in TDFX is huge. They probably have a much better idea of the OEM situation is and they probably have a good idea of what is coming from 3dfx in the future. They voted with $10 million.

As for taking 50% gains (annulized to huge numbers since the time is short) vs. holding for a few years for a chance at 300% to 400%, I'll take the short term gains in a technology, high competition situation. CL + 3dfx makes a strong pairing. 3dfx alone faces many more challenges.

Michael

btw: I like ATI/TDFX a great deal as well. CL has sound + graphics so I think they have a little more to offer.
