If Micron would have shrunk the 16 MEG, on the .25um one more time and delayed doing the .21um or moved right into the .18, they would be making money now. But a conversion to the .21um is in the fab's now. I am not sure of the percentage but it is increasing with every weeks new starts.

This pricing is strange - if you go to pricewatch.com, you'll find EDO products galore at roughly $2/16M chip, and maybe $2.75 for FPM. However, somebody who manufactures and sells DRAMS have also told me that a lot of modules guys are buying and willing to buy more at $3.00. I just wonder where the $3.00 market is? Big name boxmakers who need product for servers?

TSMC's Net Fell 54% in 3rd Quarter;
Loss Points to Growing Competition
........
Not as Lucrative Now

The surprise bad news at TSMC is a sign that newcomers to US$6 billion
contract manufacturing market such as Taiwan-based Powerchip
Semiconductor Corp. will find it isn't as lucrative as even earlier this year.
"Japanese companies are thinking about increasing their presence in the
market and South Korean firms that have been marginal competitors are
also pushing," said ING Barings technology analyst Don Floyd.
