PremiumWear 3rd Quarter Earnings Up 84% Sales Up 37%

MINNEAPOLIS, Oct. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- PremiumWear, Inc. (NYSE: PWA) today
reported net income of $.12 per share or $293,000 for the third quarter ended
October 3, 1998, up 84% compared to earnings for the 1997 like quarter of
$.07 per share or $159,000. Sales were $10.7 million, up 37% from last year's
$7.8 million. For the nine month period, net income was $.42 per share or
$1,009,000 on sales of $33.0 million, compared to earnings for the 1997 like
period of $.28 per share or $668,000 on sales of $26.2 million.

"Sales for the quarter exceeded last year's comparable period due to
continued strong demand for our Munsingwear(R) corporate apparel line of knit
and woven shirts to the promotional products market and, to a lesser extent,
initial fall shipments to golf shops of our new Page & Tuttle(TM) line of
sports apparel, which was introduced to the golf market at the PGA Show in
Orlando this past January," said Thomas D. Gleason, Chairman and CEO. "Gross
margins continued to improve over last year's comparable period due to more
efficient sourcing and re-entry into the golf business. In addition, continued
control of our working capital resulted in net interest income in the quarter
of slightly more than one cent per share," Gleason added.

David E. Berg, President and COO said, "We have experienced positive
response to our new product lines for 1999 from both the promotional products
and golf markets, and we are planning for continued sales and profit growth."

PremiumWear, Inc. designs, sources and markets knit and woven shirts and
other apparel to the promotional products/advertising specialty industry as a
licensee of the Munsingwear(R) brand and to golf pro and resort shops using
its new Page & Tuttle(TM) brand.
