Are you speaking to me? Are you sure you didn't misread my
post and perhaps attribute to me what I quoted from
Colin's original? Just possibly <G>?

Well, it is my fault for responding to an old post. Still ...

(Note: The above line is a quote.)

I presume you mean what I quoted, since my comment was:

Such a policy would put tremendous pressure on the miscreants
who misrepresent themselves as our representatives to own up
or get, to borrow a phrase (see below) "rode out on a rail"
at the next election. I, for one, do not believe our current
oppressive tax system could be maintained in the face of it.

However, whereas I've often disagreed strongly with Colin, I've
never found his comments absurd. It's speculation, after all,
that eliminating withholding would provide the benefits we
(you and I) think it would, however strongly we may believe it
to be true (and apparently we do believe it; I do, certainly).

Colin correctly points out that there's another side to it,
with consequences. I think it would work and be worth it; he disagrees; I think he's wrong <GGG>. Since it's my post,
I get to say it last (for the moment) <GGGGG>.
