The 'chosen one' predicts.....(gets partnership at Goldman Sachs.) Oct 20 1998 7:50AM - Bloomberg NewsGoldman's Abby Cohen Sees S&P 500 at 1250 in 12 Mo., CNBC Says New York, Oct. 20 (Bloomberg) -- Goldman, Sachs & Co. stock market strategist Abby Joseph Cohen last night predicted a 12- month target price of 1250 for the Standard & Poor's 500 Index, which translates into a Dow Jones Industrial Average target of 10,000, CNBC reported. Cohen, the co-head of Goldman's investment policy committee and one of Wall Street's most influential strategists, is expected to be among about 50 executives to be named new partners at Goldman Sachs, CNBC said. Cohen earlier this month lowered her estimate for operating profits for the companies in the S&P 500, citing ''more subdued expectations for global profit growth in 1999.'' Abby Joseph Cohen, Goldman Sachs' superstar strategist, is expected to finally reach the elite status of Goldman partner Tuesday when the firm announces its latest batch of inductees. The Wall Street prophet, whose ability to move markets is often described as second to that of Fed chairman Alan Greenspan, has been notably absent from the ranks of Goldman's high-paid partners, who own the bulk of the bank. A Goldman partnership is the crown jewel of any Wall Street career and brings with its holders an estimated annual income of at least $5 million. A Goldman partnership would include Cohen among those who will be the greatest beneficiaries should the investment bank resume its IPO plans. Even the most junior of Goldman's 190 general partners are likely to have a stake in the company valued at $50 million or more if Goldman issues stock.
