*OT* Mr. Hodgkin,

Two to buy, one to watch,

Despite its' problems, Cendant is a money maker. After a high of over $30 earlier in the year, and the steep slide since then, it hit a low over the last two weeks of $6 and change and is now trading back in the $11 range again. They have cleared out much of the mess and are still a major money maker, albeit a smaller money maker than previous estimates.

ICIX is also one that suffered in the slide. They had an all time high in the $80's, split to $42 and with the market slide backed down to around $16. They're already back to $24 or so and are still moving up.

One to watch for a big move is IMAT. They are going to announce technology that can put 24 times the data volume over the same current data cable. Could be a big break for them. But lots of competition in the category. The question is who can come out first with the best.

Tom F.

I never share ideas on particular stocks as it is the 'kiss of death'. But i do have my trigger finger on MRL ESV NE and GLM in the Oils, getting ready to add more, but i am waiting for it to decline about 10%........ and i do like ICOS, but everything i do is LONG. (<smooch>). other than that, i have about 4 dummy portfolios set up and am just watching about 100-125 different stocks. LVLT, UNP to name two (<smoooch-smooch>). All i can suggest is understand what you are buying, why you are buying it, but MAINLY who their competition is. (that is, of course, after you do DD on the financials first, and on the market or sector that they are in as a whole).

Chris: Mostly OT. I'm sorry - I never got back to you on the question of my favorite stocks. I had some of this written out and forgot to send it. Here's the list - with appropriate updates.
"Cheap" is a relative term. I think the following legit stocks are cheap because of potential - but they ain't BBs by price - just some of their upside! I think you may already be in some of these.
Here goes....
(my current BB/ Smallcap list appears after the following stocks)

AFFX, ICOS, IRIDF, WCOM

Affymetrix is a leader in human genome research. Almost all major medical breakthroughs will come via this type of research.AFFX has been getting money and deals from the likes of Eli Lilly and AHP. With their patents, great science, great partners and willingness to LICENSE, I believe that Affymetrix could become the Intel of Biotechs.
Was double current price a year before product sales (sound like FNTN?) Now they are selling product - and lots of it!. Some unresolved legal disputes over patents could cause problems and has had some effect on the bottom line due to high legal fees. Tooling was costly, too but they've successfully gotten past that stage. I think AFFX will come out on top of legal intanglements.. and stronger for the trouble.
I've been in and out of the stock. Currently have about 400 shares. Will buy more on another dip under $22.

ICOS is another bio. A great pipeline of products, great leadership and Bill Gates as the largest private stockholder. Need I say more?
I have a few hundred shares. Will pick up more on a dip to $17.

Iridium is connecting the world to your cell phone via their own global sat network. Spending BILLIONS. They should be online in November (timeline is backed up). Almost vacant competition, Large array of working satellites - could be a huge force. Was over $70. down at $37 2 days ago. Now at 44+ and (I believe) climbing. Bought in again, today with modest stake. may be worth waiting for dip since it's been on steady rise this week. Should come, but I believe the window is between now and on-line announcement.

Worldcom is awesome. At around $53 now. I coulda-Shoulda bought last year at 21. I think they'll be over $100 next year. Hoping to buy, soon.

As for my BBs:

FNTN, MSN, SSGI, (occasionally the dreaded FONR)

I'm holding and accumulating FNTN anywhere below 70 cents.
I believe we're going to start hearing from them in November, IMO starting next week. I still expect multi-dollar numbers by 1st Q of '99.

Holding and accumulating MSN at 3/8 & 7/16.
Still a risk with outstanding legal battles, but the company has returned from the abyss, is moving product and making money. 4-bagger potential - maybe higher. Strong buy-out candidate.

Holding SSGI - may buy again if it drops back down to 1/16 and its prospects haven't diminished. Big Big risk - Big Big profit potential. 10-bagger upside - zero worth on downside (whaddaya expect for your nickle?) Would like to see the spread narrow. Right now, you can double your investment OR lose half your investment on any given day.
