I don't know if they're out for good. I view the Internet as being in a very interesting state right now. The novelty has worn off, businesses no longer just want a Web site, they want to know how a Web presence will increase their revenue stream. There have been some innovations, but mostly at the level of enterprise systems for large corporations. There's lots of room and potential for innovation here.

The small business segment has yet to be tapped. One of the things I liked about ZAP's proposed model was that it gave small businesses (like the used book site) some good exposure. Bob, I believe you purchased from them. I bought several items myself and will continue to do so. Those businesses received tons of hits they never would have scored had they not responded to ZAP's offer. They may have been foolish enough to spend money they anticipated having as a result of aquisition, but that's just poor business practice. NOTHING is ever sure 'til the cash is in your account. The smart ones used their 15 minutes of fame to good advantage. Maybe some will benefit from a lawsuit settlement or two (Lord knows, ZAP can afford a couple cash payouts!).
