Bernard Schwartz Is Dems Biggest Contributor in 1998 Bloomberg News October 23, 1998, 5:45 a.m. PT Washington, Oct. 23 (Bloomberg) -- Loral Space and Communications Chairman Bernard Schwartz is the Democratic Party's largest individual donor, the Wall Street Journal said. Republicans in Congress have been pressing an examination of whether influenced a Clinton administration decision to allow satellite exports to China. Schwartz has given at least $405,000 this year, the Journal said. Earlier this month, the U.S. Defense Department set up a new agency, the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, that will process the almost 21,000 export license applications filed annually by U.S. industry.
