discSVCD laser disc player paid close attention by inside and outside trade formally came on the scene. 12 enterprises including Shinco¡¢Konka¡¢Panda¡¢Hualu¡¢Shang Guangdian¡¢Shanglu¡¢Wanyan¡¢Shongli¡¢Jingdian¡¢Tsinghua Laser Disc¡¢Peony and Chuangwei etc. called a product news release conference in Beijing Great Wall Restaurant on the afternoon of Sep. 1st. Cheng Guanghui, the director of General-office of Information Industry Department, Zhang Qi and Xie LinZhen ,header and deputy header of Electronic Information Product Board, Lin Yuanfang, deputy header of Economy Reformation and Execute Board, Li Fengwen, deputy header of Standardization Board of National Quality Technology Supervision Bureau, National Business Bureau, National Duty Bureau, News Publishing Department, Broadcast Bureau and Television Bureau, China Consumption Association, China Audio Association, China Video Association, China Electronic AV Industry Association, China Laser Disc Industry Association and news media¡¢enterprises¡¢business circles adding up to 300 people attended the conference.
discWanyan corporation is the originator of Chinese SVCD. Its header said excitedly: ¡±Today¡¯s SVCD product has taken on a new look, SVCD has a great advantage in quality and price.¡±
discQing Zhishang, president of Chinese biggest SVCD producer Shinco Group, said: ¡±VCD has the character of low price and good quality, it is easy to bud out into popularity. But it is a pity that its definition is poor, just 250 lines, and it can not match with the color TV(350 lines) of rank and file. SVCD adopts the format of 2/3D1, its definition increases from 250 lines to 350 lines. Moreover, China holds the copyright of its own.¡±
discRelevant department of Government in charge greatly supports SVCD. Mr. Cheng Guanghui said:¡± We come to shout encouragement for SVCD.¡± He hopes that the merit of SVCD should be introduced properly during the course of propaganda and popularity. Let all of the consumers know the advantage of SVCD.
discIt is learned that SVCD adopts MPEG-2 technique, its quality is superior to VCD, close to DVD, and it has 4 audio channels/ double stereo or 5.1 audio channels MPEG-2 audio frequency and multiple sound effect. Its overall sound special good effect has greatly increased, at the same time, SVCD has the function of superposing picture and text. SVCD also has strongly interactive function that up to 4 languages show captions to interact. SVCD laser discs and players are new digital AV products designed specially for Chinese consumers, which have the same cheap price with VCD.
discMr. Xie Linzheng, deputy header of the board, was satisfied with the demo of SVCD. He congratulated on behalf of the Board of Electronic Information of the Department of Information Industry. In addition, he pointed out the protrusion of SVCD could attribute to the economy growth rate 8%. He said :¡±At the beginning of the development of VCD, few large state enterprises took part. They all missed the chance. But this time, large state enterprises such as Hualu, Panda, Shang Guangdian etc. took a lead in producing and researching into SVCD.¡± The key components of VCD are mastered by external countries. As to SVCD, it is different. China holds the copyright of SVCD, simultaneously, partial property right on the key components of MPEG-2 decoder is held by Shinco Group.
discAs to the trade standard of SVCD, Li Fengwen, deputy header of Standardization Board of China Quality Technology Supervision Bureau , denoted definitely that it would be published soon! He said that Mr. Li Chuanqing, header of the bureau, paid close attention to the standardization of SVCD and made comments and instructions several times. He also said:¡± In the past, our standard followed with abroad. Now, SVCD becomes the standard which we hold the copyright. We should also go international.¡± The bureau will recommend SVCD for international standard and has reached an agreement with Sony, Panasonic JVC and Philip. Producers of DVD in USA and Japan have considered compatibility with SVCD.
discSoftware manufacturers had deep interest in SVCD. Delegates from China Record Corporation, China Taping Corporation, Beijing Film Factory, BaYi Film Factory, Chuangchun Film Factory, Xi¡¯an Film Factory, EMei Film Factory, Qinghai Film Factory etc. attended the conference. Shinco Group established AV Publishing Corporation specially. It will publish 300 SVCD discs this year and set up 5000 chain AV shops. It is reported that over 200 AV corporations in Hongkong and outback of China take an active part in producing SVCD discs, film corporations abroad will be authorized to publish SVCD.
