TO MICHELLE AND ALL: Corruption & Sanity Threads Michelle, a few comments a propos the question you raise. The Corruption thread was established, quite simply, "to discuss the many scandals of the Clinton Administration." The purpose of the Sanity thread, if I understand the opening post correctly, was to get the focus off The Scandals and onto the "REALLY BIG PROBLEMS" facing us. (Sorry, guys, but that is what it says.) In practice, of course, there is no difference whatsoever between the two. Essentially the same people post to both threads; only a few posters stick to one thread without venturing out. That raises at least three questions: 1) Why not consolidate the two threads into a single one? That would save on "travel time." 2) Or, use the Corruption thread for scandal discussions, and Sanity for more general discussions of current politics, ideology, etc., etc. Thus no discussions (except those on such totally apolitical ones as "fishing"), would be considered "off topic". And in order to give others an idea of the issue being discussed, posters could label their posts "Topic": e.g., TOPIC: Birth Control; or, TOPIC:Kosovo Policy, etc. 3) Why not simply accept the status quo, as well as the fact that people are going to raise the issues that most interest them at any given moment? And if a particular poster is not interested in the issue being discussed on one thread at any particular moment, he/she can always wander over to the other thread and see what's cooking. I am not particularly keen on the idea of a new thread. It might end up being yet another "Clinton thread." And if the ones that already exist have swerved from their original purpose, that happens all the time on SI. As an example, let me cite the "Let's Talk About Our Feelings" thread. It very soon became the "Let's Talk About Our Own (Uninformed) Opinions" thread. That's life. Personally, I would go for Option 1 myself. Fewer threads, rather than more. But that is probably unrealistic. jbe
