Growth of Windows NT RAS

A little techy info for those wondering where EQNX is positioning itself and its future (extracted from a Press Release on another company which supplies software for the Remote Access market):

<quote>
At present the open operating system Remote Access market is experiencing high levels of growth as a result of two important developments.
-- There has been a dramatic increase in the mobility of the workforce, resulting in high demand for powerful Remote Access platforms for telecommuting or Internetworking by corporations.
-- An increasing amount of users regard Microsoft operating systems, in particular Windows NT, as the optimum platform for setting up and operating multifunctional communications servers.

According to IDC, Windows NT market share for installed server operating systems will rise from 16% in 1997 to approximately 32% by the year 2000, making it into the leading operating system. Almost every other operating system sold today (44%) is already Windows NT based.

Leading server manufacturers (Compaq, Hewlett Packard, Dell, IBM and SIEMENS Nixdorf) have begun to follow the trend towards universal open platforms, and are expected to commence shipping pre-equipped NT RAS servers and related offerings from 1999. Global sales for Remote Access Servers alone will have tripled between 1997 (US$ 4.2 billion) and 2000 (US$ 12.4 billion).

Note that EQNX has OEM deals with IBM, HP, Unisys, and NCR. They have another in the works - I'll bet it's on the above list.
