Pigboy,

I'm not too sure about the Veritas side, but I read through all of the information I could find on the Mercury SANergy product. This is a file system extension that allows multiple users to share storage. Although I believe they have a patent on the technology, that probably won't deter Microsoft for long. <g>

I agree with you that we can probably get a pretty good picture of SAN adoption by watching the software guys. I'm also quite encouraged by the numbers being rung up by the adapter people. Fibre Channel is becoming a big part of the revenue stream for QLogic and Emulex.

Pigboy,

<<<will there be a type of standard OS for SANS in the future (ie. so msft is forced to gobble them up ;>>>

IMO a standard OS for SANs is not important. It does not have to interface with other systems other than the one it is servicing. For example, UPS and FED-X probably has similar order entry system but different in software platform and usage. It does not have to have certain standard in order to function well. As long as the SAN software can manage the system well and is easy to use, has all the necessary remote management functions. A sign to look for though is which software company is willing to support your SAN platform. In order to make money in software, it is how many copies the company can sell. It is very encouraging Veritis is supporting Ancor and company.
