Not a bad plan. Shorting used to be dangerous while rights offerings were going on, since being short would obligate you to provide the rights. However, since rights offerings have been suspended, that risk no longer exists.

John, Your closing number is in line with mine. Interesting sfe has what I thought was negative news and poor results and it jumps. (I think the jump was probably day traders looking at earnings vs expected earnings. Based on the conference call, it could be next year before sfe has another offering. They indicated they wanted their current offerings to recover price before they go forward.) Cmpc has terrible news and is off but not nearly what I expected. Docc has no news (but I bought some today) and it drops almost as much as cmpc. Scai beats estimates grows earnings 70% and drops as much as 20%. (This drop I can somewhat understand because of lack of guidance on future income.) Maybe I should just buy money market mutual funds.

Good luck to all,
Robert D.

John,
If the puts are not too expensive, that might be a safer way to go. If you are wrong your loss is limited. If right, you can get about the same relative dollar return with less capital. I never have had the courage to short. My one trade in puts was in and out in a day. I wish I had held on and bought puts to cover my entire position. I did that in August before SFE finished tanking and managed to make a profit for the day even with the huge difference between bid and asked prices.
Good luck,
Robert D.

For the first time ever, I shorted SFE. Got it at 23 1/2 I'm going to bail at anything below 20, maybe even 21, though.
