I don't consider alcoholism an accusation. It's a disease. It's like speculating whether he has cancer or not. Maybe he does and doesn't want anyone to know it. Maybe he doesn't. IMO, if he's a recovering alcoholic, if he's been to that hell and returned, it's a point in his favor.
