ESS continues to eye profits by year end
FREMONT, Calif., Oct. 20 (Reuters) - ESS Technology, a supplier of audio, modem and digital video products for computers and other markets, on Tuesday said it continues to project a return to profits by the end of the year.

''We continue to target a return to profitability by the end of this year,'' Chairman Fred Chan said in a statement.

Earlier, ESS reported a third quarter net loss of $0.18 a share on sales of $52.3 million, versus a profit of $0.04 a share on sales of $52.2 million in last year's third quarter.

ESS attributed the greater than anticipated third quarter loss to non-cash adjustments for declining inventory value and a one-time charge associated with previous acquisitions.
