John you questioned possible motives, and I will respond with a possibility -- I have no evidence for this supposition -- it is just a possibility:

If bonuses and stock options are awarded to top management on the basis of total profits rather than per share performance, then there is a tremendous incentive to grow, in spite of the fact that it is not within the best interests of the shareholders.

FWIW, I plan to hold as well. To be sure, MCK-HBO is a different animal than the HBOC "pure play." However, I'm willing to give McCall a chance and see what he can do with his new toy over the next 12-18 months.

There is little competition in this space for these guys. I expect sure and steady on annual net income >18%. Deworsification (stupid buying/merging) will be the danger...
