Microsoft Expects 2nd-Qtr Earnings of at Least 57 Cents a Share

Redmond, Washington, Oct. 20 (Bloomberg) -- Microsoft Corp.
Chief Financial Officer Greg Maffei said analysts should raise
their earnings per share estimates for the fiscal second quarter
by five cents.

Analysts had expected the company to earn 52 cents a share
in the quarter, ending in December, according to the average
estimate of First Call Corp. Maffei suggested that analysts
should raise their estimates by at least five cents a share.

Analysts also may need to raise their earnings estimate for
the fiscal third and fourth quarters, depending on their
estimates for the second quarter, Maffei said on a conference
call with analysts and money managers after first-quarter
earnings were released.

The company expects its per-share earnings to be little
changed in the second, third and fourth quarters.
