You didn't ask me but, if I were you I would consider this. Look at the premiums on those index puts -- say January or later. Then look around at some overvalued stocks and their puts for the same time frame. I think you would be better off being selective.

If you look at index puts you will be tempted to not buy enough time or buy too far out of the money unless you have a lot more risk capital than some.

Even if the indicies stay afloat say past Jan or Feb -- highly unlikely, but not impossible -- if you buy puts on say 4 - 5 overpriced stocks, you could still get one or two big winners. If the broader indices go you are apt to do even better, but I think your risk is lessened somewhat if you can come up with some reasonable picks.

Tip, IBM is running a bit, but I think that game is just about over. I didn't pay any attention to the CFO. Anyone who could sign off on that eps report has nothing to say, even if he agrees with me. <G>
