That is the way I see it and is the reason I continue to pound the table. Seems obvious.
In addition, under all the talk this past year about central bank sales, even the bears ( many months ago ) conceded that at the worst case, the pre EMU central bank selling would be over by year end. If the normal deficit, at these prices, is about 1200 tonnes then gold has to go up to ration the supply. If CB buying is thrown into the mix lookout. If the gold loans are curtailed, Yip it ee doo dah, or something like that. Only an orchestrated super dumping can keep this thing down.
One day we explode, like you said.

And not to mention the looming Y2K crisis, which will send most ordinary folk to the bank for cash and/or PM's, just in case.
There is an outside chance that Y2K problems could shut down international bank settlements, creating a banking crisis.
In that scenario, your digits on your bank book would mean diddly-sqat, just like in Russia recently.

Whether it happens or not, it will be prudent to have some insurance.......
