One can never have enough plants, but I am running out of room. My anchor plants are a stand of king and queen palms, and some Australian tree ferns. These knock down the intensity of the sun sufficiently so that I can grow the plants with the dramatic blooms. The basic soil here is a miserable adobe clay suitable for nothing. It was a major chore building up the soil, but now I have about a half foot of topsoil.

A pity about your mother. We tend to take sight for granted.
