Re: Barefoot & Pregnant Women

MrK, you are quite right to point out that Republicans do not, as a group anyway, want to keep them "barefoot and pregnant". By and large, this is, as you say, "aging rhetoric that has little parallel to reality."

At the same time, you perhaps ought to recognize that what looks like an irrational fear stems from something that has some basis in reality. Let us take, for example, the stress that many conservative Christian groups place on the "headship" of the man in the family. (The prime scriptural text here comes from the Apostle Paul: "He for Christ, she for Christ in him.") Many women -- including women belonging to other Christian denominations -- feel very threatened by that. Why not address what is a real concern?

Getting back to stereotypes, MrK, I wish you were as sensitive to cases where "your guys" employ them. After all, there are
"conservative spins" as well as "liberal spins". :=) (No offense intended.)
