Achtung! Alpha's Air Force 1 (aka Data Becker's Special Air Mission*) Review.

*** (out of *****)

"...Living up to all this expectation are the visual graphics of the game. The cockpits are some of the best you will see, the renditions of the 747 and the 707 being as accurate as you are going to get outside of the real thing. The instruments and gauges are all presented as analog, reflecting the 747-200. The outside representation of the aircraft is again superb. The detail of the externals includes all the extra antennae on VC-25A. The rendition of Moscow's Sheremetjevo airport is also good and even contains taxiway and runway signage.

The flight mechanics for the 747 in particular are excellent. The engine startup sequence for this aircraft is unequaled in Flight Simulator, its intricacy closely reflecting the complexity of starting a real 747. The flight models and performance specifications also comply very closely to the documented flight performance of a 747.

Awaiting the arrival of the president Kennedy at Edwards AFB The downside to this product is the adventure component. Given the quality of the visual graphics the truly appalling quality of the dialogue is inexplicable. In a sort of reverse Hogan's Heroes situation, Air Force One has German voices with fake American accents using bad American slang*. If ever an aircraft required an American crew it is this one and one can only wonder why an American actor or two wasn't employed for the job. As it is the dialogue fatally strains credibility..."
