Trillium Digital Systems Inc. Offers SS7 Over
IP Solution; Enables Cost-Effective Intelligent Network Service Platforms

October 27, 1998

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE) via
NewsEdge Corporation -- Trillium Digital
Systems Inc., a leading provider of
communications software solutions,
announced the availability of its Transaction
Capabilities Application Part (TCAP) over
TCP/IP product, which supports the
transport of SS7 TCAP messages over a
TCP/IP-based network and enables the
development of cost-effective service
platforms for the Intelligent Network (IN).

The rapidly expanding IN market has
increased the need for scaleable and
cost-effective service platforms. Trillium's
TCAP over TCP/IP product greatly reduces
costs by allowing a non-SS7-provisioned
platform to support TCAP-based database
operations over an IP network. Since an IP
network enables easy expansion, equipment
manufacturers can now design scaleable
service platforms.

The TCAP protocol is used in SS7 networks
for accessing databases and is a key element
for providing advanced IN features and
services over the Intelligent Network.

"As the Internet becomes more reliable and
offers higher performance, IN service
providers will find it more cost effective to
use IP transport, rather than SS7 transport,
to interconnect their switches and service
platforms," said Trillium President and Chief
Executive Officer Jeff Lawrence.

"Our TCAP over TCP/IP product can also be
used in emerging Internet Telephony
applications that need to access IN services
from Gateways or Gatekeepers. Telephony
and Internet Telephony will converge and the
lines between SS7 and IP protocols will blur.
Our TCAP over TCP/IP product is one part of
our plan to offer solutions that interconnect
these two worlds," Lawrence added.

"The evolution of telephony, Internet
telephony and the Intelligent Network has
created the need for SS7 and IP integration,"
said Dr. Jerry Krasner, research editor,
Electronic Market Forecasters,
Miller-Freeman Inc. "Accessing the IN
through TCAP provides an enhanced and
cost-effective means for enabling TCP/IP
over SS7. Trillium provides an effective
solution to make this successful convergence
possible."

About Trillium's TCAP over TCP/IP

Trillium's TCAP over TCP/IP product enables
the transmission of TCAP messages over TCP
or User Datagram Protocol (UDP). Trillium's
solution also supports multiple connections to
the same host and distributed processing to
ensure high availability between the
applications regardless of the network quality
of service. It also provides for load
distribution if multiple connections exist to
the same server site.

In addition to enabling transport of TCAP
messages over an IP network, Trillium's TCAP
over TCP/IP product also allows the
transport of Intelligent Network Application
Protocol (INAP) and Mobile Application Part
(MAP) messages over an IP network. This
enables equipment manufacturers to
introduce scaleable and cost-effective
platforms for the IN, Internet, cellular and
wireless markets.

Trillium's TCAP over TCP/IP software is
designed using the Trillium Advanced
Portability Architecture (TAPA), a proven set
of architectural and coding standards that
provide flexible, scaleable, high-performance
and portable solutions. Trillium's TCAP over
TCP/IP product conforms to Bellcore's
SR-3389 ISCP Generic Data Interface
specifications.

Trillium delivers its software as C source
code with documentation, training, warranty
